Add Euro-Office to Nextcloud

← All guides

Want to edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly in Nextcloud? You just add your Euro-Office server to Nextcloud once. This guide shows you how.

What you need

  • An account with admin rights in your Nextcloud, version 33 or newer
  • The address of your Euro-Office server, https://office.example.com in this guide
  • The JWT token of your Euro-Office server

Note: If you order Euro-Office from me, I will send you the address and the JWT token after your order. Treat the token like a password.

Step 1: Install the app

Watch out: The app for Euro-Office is called “Nextcloud Office” in the app store, exactly like the app for Collabora. The right app has the ID eurooffice.

  1. Click your profile picture at the top right and open Apps.
  2. Search for Nextcloud Office.
  3. Check the description to make sure it is the Euro-Office app. You can compare it with the app store page.
  4. Click Download and enable.

If you have command line access, this is clearer:

sudo -E -u www-data php occ app:install eurooffice

If another office app is active, for example for Collabora or ONLYOFFICE, turn it off first. Otherwise the apps get in each other’s way when opening files.

Step 2: Add the server

  1. Click your profile picture and open Administration settings.
  2. On the left, under Administration, choose Nextcloud Office.
  3. Enter the values from the table.
  4. Click Save.
FieldValue
Nextcloud Office addresshttps://office.example.com
Secret keyYour JWT token

Keep certificate verification turned on. Leave the advanced server settings empty.

Step 3: Test

After saving, Nextcloud reports that the settings were updated and shows the app’s other settings. Then try it out:

  1. Open Files and click New.
  2. Choose New document and enter a name.
  3. The document opens in the editor. Type something and close it.
  4. Open it again and check that your text was saved.

On the command line, you can check the connection like this:

sudo -E -u www-data php occ eurooffice:documentserver --check

The response looks like this:

Document server https://office.example.com/ version 9.3.1.37 is successfully connected

If it does not work

  • Error when saving the settings: Check the address. It starts with https://. Then check the JWT token, which has to match exactly. Watch out for spaces at the start and end when copying.
  • “New document” is missing: The app is not active or the connection is not working yet. Go through step 2 again.
  • A file opens in a different editor: A second office app is still active. Turn it off under Apps.
  • The editor does not load or changes get lost: Your browser has to reach the Euro-Office server, and the server has to reach your Nextcloud. Check your firewall and IP blocks. A Nextcloud that only runs on an internal network does not work with a server on the internet.
  • You are on an older Nextcloud: The app is then missing from the list. Update to version 33 or newer first.
